Your new role
We are recruiting for a Senior Planner who will be working within the Statutory Planning Services Division whose focus is on Statutory Planning Services, Planning and Heritage, Building, Planning Implementation, Forward Policy and Business Strategy, and Planning Panels. Additionally, you will:
  • Pro-actively case manage statutory approvals and projects to meet required timelines; providing statutory services to deliver the Minister for Planning’s responsibilities in relation to the assessment of planning permit applications, amendments to permits and other requirements of planning legislation and instruments.
  • Provide authoritative, timely and accurate advice to the Minister, managers and executive, local government and other stakeholders on planning issues, opportunities and solutions and prepare (and review) planning assessment reports, briefs and correspondence on planning permit issues that demonstrate a detailed understanding of the policy, statutory and political context.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, gain cooperation, influence views and negotiate for the department on complex, contentious and sensitive matters within established parameters.
  • Contribute statutory planning expertise to major projects and other planning initiatives or programs, as required.

What you'll need to succeed
  • 3+ years experience as a Statutory Planner
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and significant experience in urban planning or related field is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in all statutory planning permit and development processes (including Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Planning and Environment List matters) is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing and managing complex and/or strategically significant development proposals within a Victorian state or local government context is an advantage.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
