Hays Legal has partnered with a Victorian statutory authority to recruit for a Legal Counsel on a permanent basis. You will be working with highly qualified legal professionals specialising in Privacy & FOI focused legal advice.

Your new role
Supporting and reporting to the General Counsel and Board Secretary, and the wider Authority’s legal team, you will assist with strategic decision making and legal risk management across the organisation. You will also:

• Liaise with all levels of internal stakeholders
• Provide expert legal advice on a broad range of complex legal issues, specialising in the areas of privacy, data protection and requests for information
• Strengthen inter-governmental relationships and data sharing agreements
• Manage disputes/breaches of Privacy and information sharing.
• Identify innovative solutions to balance stakeholder requirements and ensure compliance with legislative, public sector regulatory and policy frameworks.
• Undertake further tasks as required by the General Counsel & Board Secretary.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position, you will have:

• A legal qualification and a current Australian Legal Practising Certificate
• 5+ years’ PAE
• Demonstrated ability in providing expert legal advice in privacy law, FOI requests and matters, statutory interpretation and public law.
• Excellent communications skills and ability to deal with different stakeholders effectively.
