Your new company
Hays are proud to partner with the Sypkes Family Office (SFO) in their search for an exceptional CFO. SFO have been building and investing in businesses and properties for over 60 years and currently manage a diverse portfolio of leading private technology ventures, public equities and managed funds, plus commercial properties and businesses based in Tasmania. With a head office based in Hobart, they are seeking a CFO who shares the family’s twin passions for business/investment and high-impact philanthropy to assist the disadvantaged.

Your new role
A newly created role, as the CFO you’ll be leading a Finance team of 3 including 2 Chartered Accountants and a Bookkeeper. You’ll be reporting directly into the Managing Director and will act as their key financial advisor, while also becoming a trusted advisor and confidant to other family members over time. You’ll be a hands-on and proactive thought-leader and love problem solving and working on complex transactions and tax issues. Other functions will include:
  • Oversight and quality control of the Finance teams work products, including accounts, BAS, tax returns, payments & payroll, and company secretarial records
  • Cashflow tracking, forecasting and liquidity planning
  • Inter entity, family member and charitable distribution planning
  • External relationship management with the ATO, Accountant and Auditor
  • Managing Tax and Philanthropic Foundation governance and compliance
  • Financial controls and continual improvement of internal systems and procedures
  • Production of Family Board reports


What you'll need to succeed
As the ideal candidate, you’ll be CA/CPA Qualified and have 10+ years experience within a Chartered Accounting firm in client advisory and/or tax with exposure to complex family/HNW/private clients, or have worked in a senior role already in similar organisations. You’ll be a proven manager, have exceptional Tax, Accounting and structuring knowledge, be energised by solving complex problems, and have an engaging personality that lends itself to working well with the SFO team of 10 professional staff. You’ll be keen to get efficiency gains, and ensuring processes are best practice.
