Your new role

The APS6 Compliance Officer is accountable under limited direction to undertake complex compliance work that is guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents. The role manages and coordinates the implementation and evaluation of new Compliance activities.

The position is a team membership position that is required to perform work that involves undertaking complex compliance activities and providing advice and support to other compliance officers. It has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgment to interpret legislation and policy, in the application of practices and procedures to achieve outcomes within the functions.

The APS6 Compliance Officer will provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice in relation to complex problems. It may be required to coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the departments objectives.

The position will have a considerable level of public contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It may liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the branch/division/agency

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking and managing complex and sensitive compliance reviews in accordance with Agency processes and legislation.
  • Monitoring and reporting work output and quality against established performance standards through analysis and reporting to the Executive/s.
  • Conducting informal discussions with staff and partners, participants, providers and third parties.
  • Gathering evidence from a range of sources and preparing assessments and determinations.
  • Preparing cases for referral to various business areas including the fraud intelligence team.
  • Supporting staff in the development of capabilities in undertaking compliance activities.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the team/s including supporting work priorities, resources and workflow
  • Escalate issues that adversely impact on policy, performance and/or service, including critical incidents.
  • Monitor and report work output and quality against established performance standards through analysis and reporting to Executive/s
  • Strong written communication. Prepare a range of written material including guidelines, procedures, reports, and corporate documentation
  • Use appropriate judgement, analysis and problem-solving skills and apply attention to detail
  • Methodically undertake research and form recommendations
  • Understanding and knowledge of disability and its impact on individuals.
