Community Engagement Officer

Your new role
The position facilitates community engagement with local residents, businesses and key stakeholders. This position is required to implement and coordinate community engagement forums, activities and events.

This position will implement strategies to enable and encourage relevant groups, and other interested
and affected parties, to actively participate in dealing with specific issues, as well as the future strategic
direction of the community.

Duties include:

  • Support and assist the management of engagement portals, managing website content and online engagement activities.
  • Present information to relevant groups, businesses, schools and other stakeholders in the local
  • community to engage in feedback, in a coordinated way.
  • Facilitate community consultation to understand service levels and to deliver agreed assessments
  • of current and future standards and options, whilst ensuring all viewpoints are canvassed and
  • acknowledged.
  • Representative at external forums, working groups, committees etc. as required.
  • Complete administrative duties as necessary to the function, as well as identifying business
  • improvement results to the organisation.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Tertiary qualifications (University Degree) in Communications, Public Relations or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and emerging and community engagement approaches
  • Effective project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in report writing
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of an organisation, with
    key stakeholders and with members of the community.
  • Strong customer liaison skills & experience.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in working in Local Government.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the unique engagement challenges that need to be
    addressed when operating in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
