Government & Media relations role in Canberra with a not for profit organisation. Part time position.

Your new company
This leading national peak body is part of the healthcare sector and based in the ACT. The Media and Government Relations Advisor will implement the Government Relations Strategy to improve the quality of life for all Australians impacted by ill-health through ongoing government relations activity and engagement. The Strategy execution will raise the profile of this NFP Nationally, as the leading experts in this specific field for all parliamentarians, government departments and the relevant sector organisations and leaders, federally and throughout all states and territories.

Your new role
As a member of the Corporate Communications Team play a key organisational leadership role in delivery of the strategic and business plans. Provide strategic government relations advice and support to National GM Communications and, when directed, to the CEO, the Board, Executive Directors and senior colleagues. Play an active and collaborative role in the effective management, development and achievement of the organisation’s government relations objectives and agreed priorities. You will be required to develop and deliver timely, proactive, reactive and strategic government relations activities and advice to improve the organisation profile and reputation as the trusted national peak body, leading training and service provider requirements as well as deliver the advocacy and policy messages. Write content and communications for government relations strategic activities – strategies, media releases, media and position statements, speeches, letters, meeting and media briefings. Build the profile and relationships and, maximise connections and opportunities within the federal, state and territory parliaments and press galleries.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful you will have significant experience and demonstrated success in a government relations strategic role. You will be passionate about working within the NFP sector and driven to raise the profile of the organisation and achieve business objectives. You will have experience within media relations and have a qualification in journalism, media or communications. You have the ability to think strategically and troubleshoot, with the ability to drive organisation wide initiatives that support the organisation’s Purpose and Values and the capacity to plan and prioritise at the strategic level. You will engage well with senior stakeholders and be comfortable with requirements such as writing speeches for the CEO, writing talking points, and influence within key spaces, such as the press gallery. It is important that you have experience in developing, implementing and reviewing successful strategic media and communications and government relations plans
